The Milford Sound

Impossible to describe in words, the proportions and views are amazing. This is a fjord, meaning an inlet with steep cliff sides cut by a glacier. Did I say steep? Thousands of feet high, straight down into the water and continuing down for another thousand feet. Many, many giant waterfalls. This one is over 500 feet high with cliffs rising behind it straight up for a mile. So that's as high as the Washington Monument, and notice how it seems dwarfed by the cliffs above which you cannot begin to see the tops of. And the tiny ship below is an overnight cruise ship. It is, simply put, immense. Second shot is where we anchored for the night. Ship in photo is a sister ship but identical to ours.
