The Beauty Pageant is Alive and Well in South America
We are in Mendoza, coincidentally for the big wine harvest festival, the Vendimia. A huge part of the festival is the crowning of the Queen which will take place tonight. But today all the contestants participated in a giant parade around the city that lasted over four hours. Each regional Queen had a float preceded by many, many gauchos on horseback. Huge numbers of really beautiful horses. About 200,000 people, many dressed to the nines even at 10am. Betty was more interested in the most popular style of footwear - giant platforms.
