Protecting the Kauris

The Kauri trees are being hit by something called Kauri Dieback Disease which can be spread by contaminated shoes walking on their shallow roots. So before you can even enter or leave the forest preserve you need to go through a station like this which involves scraping, then scrubbing the bottom of your shoes, followed by soaking them in disinfectant. Once in you can only walk on designated paths to avoid contact with the roots.
