Each morning on our cruise of Halong Bay, women in boats would start paddling around the tourist cruise boats about 6am, and as soon as they caught your eye, they would beckon quietly "Madame, Madame" then pull up alongside the boat, hoping you would buy anything from a bag of potato chips to a decorative necklace. If you zoom in on this picture, you will see that that this vendor had a young baby in tow. He was transfixed with a smartphone as she went about her work.
